Meet Pontypridd's New Mayor - Cllr. Aminur Kabid
Councillor Aminur Kabid was elected Pontypridd Town Mayor on May 21st 2026 at the Annual General Meeting of Pontypridd Town Council. He succeeds Councillor Carol Morgan who served as Mayor for 2025-2026.
Aminur represents the Treforest Ward and is a member of the Welsh Labour group.
The Mayor's Statement:
I feel very honoured and privileged to have been elected to the position of Pontypridd Town Council Mayor for 2026-2027.
I have lived in the Treforest area for many years and have enjoyed engaging with the wonderful community groups and events across Treforest and Pontypridd.
I am a member of many groups such as the local football club and the Rhydyfelin and Treforest Community Bingo groups and I also enjoy visiting Meadow Street Community Garden as often as possible.
I undertake a range of volunteering activities, such as litter picking in the Treforest area, volunteering for Pontypridd Food Bank and I am also a member of the Royal British Legion Pontypridd. I am heavily involved with local Treforest schools and am the Learning Education Authority Governor for Parc Lewis Primary School and St. Michael’s Primary School.
My main priorities in the upcoming year as Mayor are to serve the community and work for the residents of Pontypridd to the best of my ability. I am committed to raising as much money as possible for my chosen charity which is Pontypridd Men’s Shed. It is a group that I regard as doing important work and impacting the community. I also work for the charity and so I hold the organisation close to my heart.
I look forward to representing and serving the Pontypridd community over the next 12 months as the town Mayor.
