(heART of being)

Hello, I’m Beth, a human, an artist, an arts and wellbeing facilitator and an aspiring meditation teacher. My artistic endeavours often explore what it is to be human, and my facilitation comes from a place of hope and optimism for the future.

What keeps your wheels turning?, 2021

Upcycled Installation and meditation

This meditative installation was inspired by answers to the question ‘what keeps your wheels turning during hard times in life?’. Whether this was related to the pandemic or not, I wanted to hear from the people of Pontypridd about what keeps you going when the going gets tough.

I had a lovely mixture of responses, including some poems from participants of the local group ‘Breathing Space’. I have created a meditation to accompany the installation and some audio clips are included in this including one of the poems.

Each car wheel alloy holds a different affirmation based on the ideas that appeared in the question responses. The tops of the alloys are decorated with symbols as shown on the key provided. These symbols aim to represent the core of the question responses. I encourage you to spin the wheels and read the affirmations.

When visiting the work, please use the hand sanitiser provided, and for safety reasons, do not put your hands inside the wheels.

Many thanks to all of the contributors to this project and special thanks to Calum Conaghan for the meditation music and to the members of ‘Breathing Space’.
