CEINWEN JONES
Artist Statement
As an artist and facilitator, I choose to work experimentally in mixed media and a variety of methods to ensure that I work in a way which best expresses myself. The act of making art is a reflective and analytical process where I can explore my identity in relation to the wider world and my inner sense of self. Equally, in my participatory practice, I become inspired by the connections made with the community. Meeting different people from different walks of life and having the opportunity to work creatively alongside them sparks my ideas in an environment where we can support each other, functioning like an art collective.
For the past few months I have been working with the artists of Pontypridd in Purple Shoots, capturing the different aspects and who they are as an artist. Since I invited the public and one of Purple Shoots groups called ‘The Thursday Group’, each piece contains moments of connection and personality. In support of my own well-being, I adopt a holistic approach where meditation and working with crystals help me to feel more grounded, so each piece has a criteria to include crystals to connect them all individually.
My workshops are solely about giving people the space needed to feel safe and free to express themselves. This involves starting with a process of getting to know my participants and then tailoring the methods and imagery in support of what works best for their wellbeing. The pieces are displayed in the window collated together in a form of a collage, with a zine that has further information on the artists involved and their experiences. This will take place May 9th – 11th, 10am to 2pm. All are welcome to come and be a part of the experience.
