EIRIANA MAYSON

Artist Statement

I am a Welsh artist who enjoys using mix media and participatory arts. My materials and methods range from acrylic painting to craft-based workshops. I enjoy the challenge of experimenting until I discover what artistic medium and making process will best express what the work seeks to communicate. Nature is a recurring point of inspiration, as is the process of collaboratively deciding on the premise of a project in a participatory arts context. As a facilitator, I value using a participant-centred approach, which is where I find experimentation prioritises participants desired goals. The purpose of my practice is to encourage individuality through creativity by providing opportunities for expression, empowering others to use creativity for their well-being.

For the pART of Pontypridd Art Trail 2025, this mosaic and tile display has been created [BD1] to reflect the community and town of Pontypridd. Working alongside the community I aimed to answer the question “What makes Ponty feel like home?”. I invited the community to engage in a series of workshops held at Badman where the artwork was influenced by discussions of home. Notably, the project showed feelings of a deep connection within the community and a love for the natural scenery. The mosaics are abstract designs of places in Pontypridd that are important to the participants. The aim of the question was to connect people with the feeling of home and belonging. You are invited to scan the QR code to listen to the stories connected to each mosaic tile, which are also available to read via the text provided above each of the associated tile. ‘What makes you feel at home?’.
