Magic and The Mab - Berw Road Field

The Mab is steeped in magic. The legends tell of shapeshifters and magicians, witches and giants, spells and curses. People come back to life with the use of a magic cauldron, characters are transformed into animals or can speak to them to gain their wisdom, people disappear into the Otherworld or walk from that world into ours. Everything is possible and anything can happen.

Follow The Mab Trail on Berw Road Field to find three story stones:

Story Stone 1
Follow the Dream a retelling of The Dream of Emperor Macsen

In Follow the Dream, the Emperor of Rome, Maxen Wledig, takes a nap after a day of hunting and dreams of crossing the sea to find an island where a majestic castle lies. There he sees the most beautiful maiden and immediately falls head over heels in love with her. When Maxen wakes, instead of getting on with his day he follows his dream to a wonderful faraway land. Wales, of course.
Story Stone 2
Three Graces a retelling of Lludd and Llevelys

Three Graces is a story of three terrible plagues. The first is a plague of strange ghost-like creatures - whispering listeners, who have the ability to hear everything everyone is saying. The second, an ear shattering screaming caused by a red dragon and a white dragon in combat. The third plague is caused by a magician who steals the food of the people while they sleep.

Story Stone 3
Luned and the Magic Ring a retelling of The Lady of the Well

Luned and the Magic Ring sees one of King Arthur's knights battle against magical creatures and find help from a mysterious woman with a ring of invisibility.

The characters in The Mab live in a landscape where magic happens so often, they unquestioningly believe in it and in its power. You too can become part of that mythical landscape by following the Mab Trail.
